- Materials
- Most of the box is black cherry. The inlaid panel in the top is a figured piece of walnut. The various trays and dividers are a mixture of cherry, walnut, sassafras, and ambrosia maple. The handles on the sides are cherry sandwhiched with walnut. The handle on the top is walnut and cherry. Self-adhesive red velvet was used to line the bottoms of the trays/dividers. I added rubber feet to the bottom for protection. the bottom of the box also has a slight chamfer to ease the edge and also give it a shadow line for dept.
- Finish
- Entire box was finished with a first coat of Tried and True Danish Oil, followed by 4 coats of Tried and True Varnish Oil, followed by a final topcoast of Tried and True Original, all hand rubbed and burnised to a glorius lustre.
- Construction
- Joinery Methods:
- The outer portion of the box was mitered and splined with contrasting walnut splines. Raised panel walnut inset into top of box with rabbets. Trays and dividers were all simple mitered boxes with integrated bottoms. Dividers were set into shallow dadoes. Everything has a nice, tight, piston-like fit
